Contribution of tourism to GDP will grow 5% on average in the period 2012 to 2022

Lima, July. 08 (ANDINA). The tourism sector's direct contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Peru recorded an average growth rate of five percent in the period 2012 to 2022 and thus will become the second largest contribution to level of the region after Brazil (5.1 percent), reported the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL).



The president of the Tourism Committee (Comtur) of the FTC, Gabriela Fiorini explained that this dynamism would be based on the implementation policy of dissemination of tourism, gastronomic boom, the tourist potential of natural resources and low costs on account of travel bags in the country.
He recalled that the direct contribution of the tourism sector under consumption of commodities (food and beverages), the investment costs for travel and tourism, the collective spending of government in promoting domestic tourism for research and the impact of purchase providers of tourism services.

On the other hand, indicated that the indirect contribution refers to expenditure by persons employed directly or indirectly in the tourism sector (food and beverages, entertainment, clothing, shelter, household items). Both generate a total contribution of travel and tourism sector to GDP.
In that sense, estimated that this year the tourism sector directly contribute 6.342 million dollars to the national economy, representing an advance of 3.6 percent from 2011.
On the other hand, projected growth of the tourism sector will continue its positive trend this year and will have a total contribution of nine percent to national GDP, thus providing 16.449 million dollars.
He explained that this development ecotourism plays an increasingly participatory and fundamental, resulted in more people to visit the places with more natural, historical, cultural and mystical in the country, followed by infrastructure improvements increased tourism and skilled manpower for the sector.
Also, Fiorini said that the arrival of tourists from abroad amounted to two million 598 thousand in the previous year, who recorded an average per capita spending of $ 1.202 in Peru.
He said that the foreign exchange generated by tourism amounted to 2.912 million dollars in 2011, representing an advance of 6.2 percent from 2010.
He explained that South America is still the main source block inbound tourism in the country to participate in 55 percent of the total, followed by North America with 20 percent and Europe with 18 percent.
Finally, he recalled that according to the Competitiveness Report Travel and Tourism 2011, Peru is ranked 69 out of 139 economies worldwide.
He said Peru has enormous potential to promote the tourism sector by strengthening the Country Brand with measures appropriate to the demands of the international market as an efficient safety and security for tourists.
Well as incentives to increase the average expenditure of tourists, for example the implementation of the refund system General Sales Tax (IGV) and a legal framework that encourages private investment and protect them.
