pnb in us-ca branches information 2

The Philippine National Bank group won the bidding for the property in 1996, paid a down payment of 20 percent, or 28 million US Dollars or 512.34 Million Philippine Peso, and obtained a loan from PNB on the remaining 80 percent. It said it had paid an interest of $12 million on the remaining amount.

“The onset of the Asian crisis in 1997 necessitated a restructuring but PNB proceeded [with the] foreclosure,” the group said, noting that it then secured a permanent injunction stopping the foreclosure.

Jacinto had claimed in court that the PNB foreclosure in the 1990s was politically motivated as he was closely associated with former President Fidel V. Ramos. He claimed that it was this association that led Ramos’ successor Joseph Estrada to run after him. At the time the dispute with PNB erupted, the bank was still controlled by the government.
